Abraham
Many years ago I was asked by the "Universe of Power" to write a short piece on the teachings of Abraham Hicks. Here is the article . . .

Tuned In, Tapped in, and Turned On!
A Review of the Written and Recorded Materials of Abraham
By Frank Smith

For those of you who might not be familiar with Abraham, allow me to offer a brief description. Abraham is a group of non-physical entities that communicate through a woman named Esther Hicks. She describes the process as one of translating blocks of thoughts. What the audience or reader is privileged to hear are clear, original and poignant messages that are right on target and relevant to the times we are living in.

What I intend to do in this article is summarize what I have learned from listening to countless hours of Abraham CD's and reading all of their books to date (see below). What I will share here would best be described as the "crib notes." You can be sure that I will not be able to convey the whole message. For that you must go to the source itself. So I highly recommend that you visit Esther and Jerry's website: www.abraham-hicks.com.

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, allow me to proceed . . .

"Tuned in, tapped in, and turned on" is a favorite expression used by Abraham. It's a way to describe a person who is in "vibrational alignment" with their higher being, or what Abraham calls Source. "Vibrational alignment" is a key part of the teachings. Since everything in the Universe down to the tiniest particle is vibrating, then it stands to reason that we too are vibrating beings.

The goal is to raise our vibrations, or more specifically, to reach for the feeling of joy! Fortunately the reaching isn't hard to do. You see, we have a built in guidance system. Our emotions provide a very reliable way to know just where we are in the process. Abraham likens the emotions to a GPS (global positioning satellite) system. The higher emotions like joy, freedom, and love are in alignment with Source while the lower emotions like fear, grief, and depression are clearly not in alignment.

So what is the payoff for tending to this alignment with Source? In a nutshell, it's how we are able to get everything that we want!

Here's how it works. We come into this life as "leading edge creators." From kicking around in this physical dimension we naturally develop preferences. Stuff happens that we don't like and we instantly decide we DON'T want that. Whether we speak our preferences out loud or not, we send up"rockets of desire" that indicate what we DO want. Our preferences are born out of contrast, Abraham sometimes calls it "Blessed Contrast."

Once we make our preferences known, Source immediately grants our wish. "Ask and it is given." Source adores us and is more than willing to see us receive our heart's desires. In fact, Source views this process as expansion and takes great joy in seeing us express our creativity in this way.

So it would seem at this point that if it were that simple, we would be manifesting great circumstances and material abundance all over the place. There is one catch and it has to do with the "Law of Attraction." In order to claim our heart's desire we must vibrate in sync with it. "That which is like unto itself is drawn" is Abraham's definition of the "Law of Attraction." Unfortunately as Abraham says, we beat the drum of what we DON'T want so much that what we DO want can't come to us. By complaining and allowing ourselves to feel any of the negative emotions associated with lack, we set up the vibration of lack, and that's exactly what we attract . . . lack . . . it's the law.

The solution is to reach for feelings of relief. As Abraham says, you can't go from depression to joy in one jump. But you can go from despair to feelings of unworthiness and maybe jealousy in just a few short steps. All of these represent slight improvements in your emotional state and thus your vibrations. Abraham has an emotional scale that he uses to show where you are at any point. Also I need to point out that these are just words and approximations for the feelings that we experience. The specific word matters little. The concept matters a lot!

The range of the scale is from fear/grief/depression/despair and powerlessness on the bottom end to joy/knowledge/freedom/love/ and appreciation on the top. (The entire scale can be found in their book Ask And It Is Given.

Now would be an excellent time to introduce a metaphor Abraham uses a great deal . . . "the stream." When you move from a feeling of worry to doubt for instance, you are moving downstream (you are going with the flow), and will notice a slight improvement in the way you feel. On the other hand, if you move from contentment to boredom, you just moved slightly upstream, and consequently you won't feel as well.

Everything you want is downstream. By relaxing and "letting go of the oars" as Abraham puts it, we allow our Well-being and our "vibrational escrow" to come to us. The concept of taking the action path versus the vibrational path is key here. Abraham encourages us to always seek vibrational alignment with what we want first, and then take whatever action occurs to us, while still maintaining the good feelings.

You have certainly heard me use the word "Source" a great deal here.

Abraham prefers this word to the word God. God carries with it a lot of history for most of us and tends to bring up certain preconceived notions. For this reason Source seems to be a better choice. The interesting thing about Source, according to Abraham, is that it represents what most of us might call our "Higher Self." It is at all times intimately connected to us. We have just forgotten this. Abraham uses the metaphor of a toaster and the electric current (where we are the toasters and Source is the current).

Here are some bullet points for this amazing teaching:
-
We are all connected to Source. We are the leading edge extension of Source. We, by our preferences are pushing the envelope of creation (which makes Source very happy).
-
Source is a constant flow of Well-being. Source adores us and is always flowing love and Well-being through us.
-
Contrast is a blessed thing. We all came into this incarnation to experience contrast and make our choices as to what we prefer. (We knew this as babies but forgot along the way.)
-
Our preferences shoot out of us as "rockets of desire."
-
Source rides and actually shapes itself into our desires instantly. (Ask and it is given.)
-
All we need to do in order to manifest in this dimension all that we desire, is to stop resisting and allow Source to orchestrate the events, and timing etc.
-
Allowing is all about feeling good. When we reach for the best possible thoughts (which generate the good feelings) we are most closely aligned with Source.
-
Appreciation and love bring us into alignment because this is the very nature of Source.
-
All illnesses are a result of resistance. All difficulties in life are a result of resistance. Period.
-
Emotions are our GPS system. When you don't feel good you are headed upstream and resisting Source. When you feel good you are flowing downstream (and toward your desires). The stronger the desire the stronger the stream.
-
Manifestations are affected by how strong the emotion is and how long you have been thinking the thought.
-
Beliefs are practiced (repeated) thoughts.
-
We tend to get what we focus on whether we want it or not. This works with imagined futures, observed present conditions or remembered past events. However there is a blessed time buffer that allows us to modify and clarify what we want.
-
"Deliberate creation is really about deliberately achieving an emotional state."
-
When we "croak" (die) we stop resisting and our "vibrational escrow" all comes rushing in.
